Business process guide
Workflow Design
Workflow design translates a business process into an operational sequence that people and systems can execute consistently.
Practical note: process design depends on organization, data, controls, laws, contracts and technology. Treat examples and calculators as educational planning aids, then validate changes against your own requirements.

Design for the normal path and the exception path
Most workflows have a predictable majority path plus exceptions that need different data, approvals or expertise. If exceptions are not designed, they become email side channels.
Keep decisions explicit
Decision rules should identify what information is needed, who has authority and what happens when the information is missing or conflicting.
Avoid unnecessary handoffs
Each transfer creates queue time and communication risk. Combine steps when the same role can perform them safely and effectively.
